【COVID-19①】First Dose of COVID Vaccine

On 16 August 2021, I got my first dose of the COVID vaccine. I was able to book an appointment through my postgraduate school's vaccination service. The vaccine is made by Moderna. I had seldom been to the Hongo campus where the vaccinations were held, so I made the mistake of changing the train and going to a completely different place. As a result, I was late for my appointment. I apologise for the inconvenience on the day.

Thanks to the skill of the doctor in charge, the vaccination was over before I knew it was done. I went to my part-time job that evening and stayed at home the next day in case I had any side effects. In my case, the only side effects I had were a pain in my left arm and a little sickness in my health.

Side effects and their timing.

Until last year, I was optimistic that healthy younger people would not need to be vaccinated or not. This was because the vaccine had not been fully proven to prevent infection and because healthy younger people were primarily responsible for trying to prevent the spread of the disease to the elderly and those with underlying medical conditions, who were more likely to be seriously ill. This year, however, the situation has changed. Novel COVID-19 variants have emerged one after another, which has increased the likelihood that even healthy younger people will become seriously ill. In other words, the situation has changed from last year, when they could recover at home if they were infected and had the disease, to now, when they are infected and have the disease and need the help of medical personnel. This means that we, the younger people, may be directly responsible for the collapse of healthcare. In light of this situation, I have come to believe that it might be better to get the vaccine as the vaccines approved in Japan have been confirmed to be effective in preventing the onset of the disease and are expected to be effective in preventing severe disease (Japanese page only). The above opinion is partly based on that of 安涼奈 /Alyona, a YouTuber that I watch frequently. However, I understand that everyone has their own opinion about COVID-19 vaccination. I hope that you will make a choice that you are happy with.
