【COVID-19③】Third Dose of COVID Vaccine

On 15 March 2022, I got my third dose of the COVID vaccine. I was able to book the vaccination through my graduate school's occupational vaccination service. As with the first and second vaccines, the vaccine was made by Moderna. Thanks to the exceptional skill of the doctor in charge, the injection itself was not painful at all. Fortunately, like the first and second times, I had mild side effects. This time it was a pain in the left arm where the injection was given and a headache. The pain in the left arm went away more quickly than the first and second times. On the other hand, I suffered from a headache that did not appear the first and second times. I have a migraine and usually it subsides as soon as I take medicine, but this time it did not subside immediately even after taking medicine. I think it was probably a side effect of the vaccine.

Side effects and their timing.

Due to concerns about side effects, it is ultimately up to the individual to decide whether or not to receive the third vaccination as well. In the case of the currently widespread Omicron variant, it has been pointed out that the effectiveness in preventing the onset of illness and hospitalisation declines significantly with time after the second vaccination, and it has been confirmed that a third additional vaccination can restore those preventive effects again. From this perspective, I have received the third vaccination so that if I should become infected, I will not have to be taken care of by healthcare workers. I hope that the situation will be better soon.
