【Research Findings①】Academic Paper Was Accepted for Publication in Journal! (First Time in My Life)

On 11 September 2021, our academic paper was accepted for publication in a journal. This is the first time in my life that I have been accepted for publication in a peer-reviewed journal. It will be published as a review article in Pathology - Research and Practice (an impact factor of 3.250 as of September 2021), one of the journals published by Elsevier, a publishing house based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

Kisaï K and *Koji S (2021) Prognostic role of USP7 expression in cancer patients: a systematic review and meta-analysis. Pathology - Research and Practice, 227: 153621. (peer-reviewed).

In this study, we used a systematic review and meta-analysis (1) to assess the association between USP7 expression and the prognosis of cancer patients and (2) to identify the clinicopathological features associated with a high expression of USP7. We hope that the results of this study will contribute to the development of cancer treatment and the realisation of personalised medicine.

This paper is based on my undergraduate research. My undergraduate college was not in the medical field. However, my supervisor at the time, Assoc. Prof. Shinsaku KOJI, who specialises in insect ecology, had a policy of allowing us to carry out research of our own choice, as long as it was related to humans or wildlife. At first, I had no idea what I wanted to do, but then he taught me about a systematic review and meta-analysis, which really accelerated my research. However, as I lacked the knowledge and experience, I had to make a lot of trouble for him to perform the meta-analyses. In addition, the paper had been rejected six times before it was published this time. I am relieved that I have been able to publish a paper with him. I think I was able to reward him a little. However, if the research design had been a little better, it could have been published as an original paper. I now have a strong desire to publish my work as an original paper.
